I have been meaning to answer people's questions for awhile now but just keep forgetting. So, I thought it was time to finally answer them while I'm thinking of it.
#1- Are your babies natural? -I don't know a baby who isn't.
#2- Do multiples run in your family? -Brack and I both have twins in our families but we aren't sure how much that had to do with it.
#3- Did you do In-vitro Fertilization? -No. Lucky for us we did not have to go that far. After finding out that we had "unexplained infertility" (doctors could not find a reason why we couldn't get pregnany), we were placed on a drug called Clomid. The drug worked extra well on me and so we ended up having to half the dose. We were told we had about a 3% chance of triplets, 20% chance of twins, and about 35% chance of a singleton. Well....we beat the odds :)
#4- Are you going to have to move? -Right now, no. We are going to stay in our townhome. Luckily it has 3 bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths and an unfinished basement. So for now we can make it work. I have spent the last few months de-junking a lot and organizing. We haven't been able to go through everything in the basementlike I hoped, but we made a big dent in it and I have been able to go through every closet in the house. So it has helped a lot to de-junk so we can just refill it all with baby things :) We will either have to finish our basement within the next year or plan on moving in 1-2 years most likely. We will just have to see.
#5- Are you going to nurse them? I am not. I have not yet determined if I will try to pump for them while they are in the NICU or not. It is actually not completely up to me. I have a medical problem that I am on medication for. I would have to go off all of my medication in order to pump for the babies. So we will have to see if my body can handle the change of going off all of my medication after it has already gone through so much with carrying the triplets. So as of right now, I am not planning on nursing or pumping.
#6- Can you feel the babies now? -Yes I can. I can feel all 3 of them and usually know who is kicking. They sometimes can trick me though. They are quite busy in there but there are times that no one is moving. Bracken has felt them a couple of times but seems to always miss it. I also can see them kicking on the outside of my belly sometimes. I love that they are growing and getting big!
#7- How much weight are you suppose to gain? -My doctor never gave me an actual amount. He doesn't say much about weight gain because A) I've been gaining steadily and B) As long as I'm gaining, he is worried about a lot more than just that I think. I did read a triplet book written by a Dr. Barbara Luke (I highly recommend this book to any triplet mom) and it said to aim to gain 50-70 pounds no matter if you were overweight to begin with. So I do not actually know how much I have gained (not my favorite thing to see) but I know I have been gaining.
#8- Are your babies identical? -No. They are all fraternal and have their own sacs and own placentas.
#9- Do you have everything you need? -Honestly, I don't know. It is so hard to know how much and what you need. We have been very blessed by showers and by our families help. We now have all 3 cribs, a dresser, all 3 car seats, 2 strollers, and hopefully all of the little things like clothes, burp cloths, blankets, etc. We also have a nice supply of diapers and wipes to start us off. People have been very generous and helpful. I get asked a lot what else do we need and truthfully we are open to anything that people are willing to offer. I feel quite ready but you never know with 3 how many of what you will need.
#10- When will you go on bed rest? -I actually thought that by this point in my pregnancy I would be on bed rest! I really have no clue when it is going to happen. The past few weeks, things have started to change. My perfectly low blood pressure goes up and down now and is all over the place. It hasn't gotten too high and I have no signs of pre-eclampsia but I am now monitoring it very very closely at home. It seems that if I stay down it keeps it down. I have also started to have contractions or braxton hicks contractions, whatever you want to call it. They are irregular but I also have to keep my eye on them and make sure I don't get 6-8 in an hour. I saw the dr. this past week and he didn't say I needed to be on bed rest. He is going to see me weekly now and told me if anything happens to go straight to the hospital, not even to call first, just go in. We just can't risk it. So, for now I've basically put myself on modified bed rest. Yes, I might be crazy but I just think it is best. Plus, I have no energy. So I usually am up for MAYBE a couple of hours a day but then I spend the rest of the day in my recliner.
#11- Do you have names picked out? -I'm pretty sure that we are set on our names but I'm not ready to tell them to everyone yet...so you must keep waiting.
#12 - What do you do all day since you do not work? -I haven't worked for almost 4 months now. I have LOVED it. I spent a lot of time organizing my house and preping things. I have spent more time with my mom then I have in years! It has been so fun. She works still but after her heart attack I saw her almost every single day. She has helped me so much, I do not know what I would do without her. I have also been able to hang out with my sister Nat which has been great since she used to live in St. George and only moved up 1 year ago. So basically I sleep in because I'm tired and I know that I won't be able to do it again for a long long time. I take naps when I need to, I take care of my house, and I have just been enjoying life. I have been reading and researching things on triplets for awhile now and do some of that almost everyday. There is so much to learn! Now that I'm slowing down on things I spend a lot of time online. I need to start some projects I think.
#13- Do you have family or friends that will be around to help? -Luckily both of our parents live within 10 minutes of us. My in-laws are both retired which will be helpful, although they do have other things to do than take care of my kids :) My mom is planning on helping me as much as she can which will be very nice. We also live in an amazing ward who has talked about organizing help to come in when Brack goes back to work. So we will be figuring things out as we go.
#14- What are you going to do and/or how are you going to do this? -I probably get this question the most. We don't know EXACTLY how we are going to take care of 3 babies but we are going to do it. We have ideas of how to do things, schedules, etc. but honestly we just will have to take it a day at a time. We know it is not going to be easy, it is going to be more work than we probably can imagine. But we feel so blessed that the Lord is sending us 3 of his children and we are going to do the best we can. We love them already and will work hard to make things work. People say they are so worried for us but there is no reason to be. Leave the worrying up to us :) We are so excited to meet our children and to start this adventure. We will be able to handle it. Worrying doesn't do us any good at this point. We just can't wait!
Well there you have it. If you have more questions, feel free to ask. I stole this idea from my friend who is a triplet mom and just thought it was the easiest way to answer everyone's questions. I cannot believe that we have made it 25 weeks already!!! What a blessing.
P.S. Pictures of the nursery to come...so cute!
